Movidas - the name

Movidas is colloquial Spanish for 'moves' or 'movements', an expression often used in dance or sport. It can also mean ‘in vogue’ or 'chic' or ‘a good connection’ – as in 'I know someone who can get tickets to the sold out performance...' It implies life and enjoyment, which is what the Movidas team hopes you will experience on one of their journeys.

The Movidas team

Movidas Journeys may be a relatively new company, just past the three year mark, but the faces are familiar. Robyn Smith and Simone Marashlian have been working as a team for over thirteen years, sending travellers on amazing journeys to Latin America! They make a great team and are constantly coming up with fresh and exciting ideas for travel to this amazing continent, with a feel for what each individual journeymaker desires. The idea is for travellers to immerse themselves in what they enjoy, be it vibrant cities, tropical jungles, wildlife havens or amazing landscapes. The Movidas team wants to move you to the destination of your dreams.

Movidas in 2010

Movidas Journeys has had a rewarding first 3 years. Of course, like all, we had to weather the Global financial crisis but with great support and good fortune, we have come through and are now enjoying enjoying the new wave of interest. We continue to enjoy some great promotional events in conjunction with Pro-Chile, 'Wines of Chile', and 'Hispanic Artistic Expression'. We have also just helped send 'Watussi' on their first tour of Latin America which was a huge success. Last year, we branched out into Asia with the introduction of Pandaw River Cruises, and went along to try the experience on a voyage down the Mekong from Cambodia to Vietnam. Wonderful! Our clients have been enjoying cruises in India and Indochina. This year has seen some tragic times in Latin America with earthquakes, heavy rains and mudslides. The response to the Chilean Earthquake was heartwarming, with many friends and clients touching base to ensure all our friends were fine, and fortunately they were. We are so impressed and grateful that rather than cancel plans when Machu Picchu was closed, our client travelled to Peru anyway! They altered travel plans to arrive into Chile via the south, or flew into Santiago as soon as the airport opened. Those who were already there when trouble struck took it all in their stride and worried more about the local people than their holiday plans. Our South American partners have nothing but praise and thanks for the grace in which our clients handled their situations. As one pointed out 'it is about the journey, not the destination! All seems to have settled down now, and we hope the rest of 2010 proves to be just as rewarding and again, we wish to thank everyone who has joined us on our journey!
