Movidas - the name
Movidas is colloquial Spanish for 'moves' or 'movements', an expression often used in dance or sport. It can also mean ‘in vogue’ or 'chic' or ‘a good connection’ – as in 'I know someone who can get tickets to the sold out performance...' It implies life and enjoyment, which is what the Movidas team hopes you will experience on one of their journeys.
The Movidas team

Movidas in 2007
Movidas Journeys enjoyed a spectacular year in 2007 and wish to thank all those who supported us. We expected a steady beginning but were overwhelmed with the efforts of friends and associates who spread the word and sent us on our own amazing journey. It was not all work and no play however, as we enjoyed some great events, from the intimate Movidas Opening party in March which was an unforgettable evening, to the grand Chilean Tourism and Premium Wine Tasting Event at the Australian Museum in November We wish to thank the Embassy of Chile for organising the event and our co-sponsors, Pro-Chile, Turismo Chile and 'Wines of Chile' for making it such a memorable evening. Movidas also participated in the Brazil Workshop in Melbourne in November and wish to thank the Brazilian Embassy and Trade Bureau for organising the event. September was the month for the Movidas team to take its own journey with a trip to South America to connect with local operators, visit some new hotels and enjoy some new adventures. In Chile, we visited some superb new vineyards in the Casablanca Valley en route to Valparaíso and caught up with old friends. In Buenos Aires we had the pleasure of taking a helicopter flight over the city which was sensational - the only way to get a panoramic view apart from looking out the window on your flight into the cosmopolitan city. However, the main purpose of the journey was to attend Travelmart Latin America in Cartagena, Colombia which is a Carribean gem with a history of pirates and heroes. We met with many Latin American ground and cruise operators. found some fabulous new products and made some great connections. We stopped en route in Bogota, the elegant and charming capital and spent a few days relaxing post conference at San Andrés Island, a little bit of paradise in the Caribbean Sea. It belongs to Colombia but was also settled by the English and therefore has a Latin and Rastafarian atmosphere. The island is surrounded by the Sea of Seven Colours, and there are many small islets or cayos to be explored. We ate lobster every day as it would have been a sin not to! We hope 2008 proves to be just as much fun and also as prosperous and wish to thank everyone who jumped on board and helped make 2007 such a great journey!
