Atacama Desert ranked 2nd on NY Times 52 Getaways List

Chile’s Atacama Desert was recently highlighted as one of the 52 getaways you can´t miss this year 2017. Prepared annually for the travel section of the New York Times, the Atacama Desert was ranked second this year, making it a highly visible and anticipated destination in the world of tourism.

The list, which Canada tops at #1, highlights the Atacama desert and its clear skies. Unique in the entire world, these crystal-clear skies allow easy gazing at the stars—besides providing a great attraction for adventure lovers. Landscapes of dunes sculpted by wind and kaleidoscopic lakes of salt amaze even more from above, in a hot air balloon tour. The excursion is offered regularly since August 2016. Atacama is one of our fave destinations! You should check it out in 2017!

    Peruvian restaurants excel

Peru has fared very well in the list of The World’s 50 Best Restaurants, as published by the British magazine, Restaurant. Peruvian cuisine was once again well represented by Central, Maido, and Astrid & Gastón as these landed among the top 30.

Virgilio Martínez’s Central placed fourth for the second year in a row on the genius of his exquisite tasting menu which includes innovative Peruvian recipes with ingredients from the ocean and the heights of the Andes.

Mitsuharu Tsumura’s Maido earned the special Highest Climber Award, jumping from 44th to 13th. His restaurant is a fusion of Japanese and Peruvian food, and each dish is an adventure into local biodiversity.

Number 30 went to Astrid & Gastón, creation of Gastón Acurio (Peruvian) and Astrid Gutsche (French). The choice of each ingredient, recipe, and staff member is a reflection of the love between the two spouses since their aim is to provide patrons a one of a kind experience.

South American restaurants did quite well this year, with 5 placers, 3 of them from Peru, thus strengthening the country’s position as the region’s main culinary destination.
